Job description
Gantry is an early-stage machine learning infrastructure startup building tools and infrastructure to help ML teams turn their machine learning projects into ML-enabled products. We're a small but well-funded and experienced team (Lyft, OpenAI, Datadog, SigOpt, Google Brain), backed by Amplify, Index Ventures, South Park Commons, and angel investors including Greg Brockman and Pieter Abbeel.
Most machine learning projects never make it to production because ML teams are missing critical tools to help them test, deploy, monitor, and retrain their models. Gantry is building developer tools to help machine learning teams bridge the project to product gap.
We are hiring a founding engineer to build the backend for our core services. Since our users are themselves data scientists, ML engineers, and infrastructure engineers, your work will not only help our product scale, but also be a determining factor in how usable and delightful it is.
What you'll do
- Design and build the core backend systems powering our product
- Collaborate with our ML engineers on designing abstractions and APIs
- Ensure that our systems are reliable, secure, and worthy of our customers' trust
- Set engineering standards and culture as we grow the team
You may be a good fit if you
- Have experience building distributed systems
- Are excited to help to accelerate the ability of companies to deploy machine learning as part of their core products and services
- Thrive on challenging technical problems, i.e., large-scale data infrastructure that supports both batch and near-real time use case
- Want to have a large impact as an early member of the team
- Are comfortable managing complexity, making pragmatic trade-offs, and dealing with ambiguity
- Are familiar with technologies like AWS, Kubernetes, Python, and concepts related to streaming and batching applications

Our founders have backgrounds in machine learning and software infrastructure. You'll be among the first few engineers at the company. Most of the team is based in San Francisco, but we are building a remote-friendly company and welcome applicants from anywhere in the US.
