Job description

Are you passionate about understanding customer problems and innovating to build technology that solves them at scale while simplifying the lives of everyday software engineers?

With Distributed Tracing, New Relic helps customers connect data about specific requests so users can better troubleshoot issues in their systems. We help customers make sense of their data by creating UIs that give customers new insights, build APIs and systems that handle immense scale, and tackle hard problems so our users are more productive in their everyday work!

We're looking for a curious, enterprising Senior Product Manager for our team to help build the next generation of Distributed Tracing technology!

At New Relic, you'll be a core leader in the team responsible for driving product strategy and vision, engaging directly with customers and partner ecosystem, working with Engineering to create solutions, and scaling the business in partnership with Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success teams.

As a part of this team, you'll help define our product strategy, then help our engineers design and deliver technology solutions, and engage customers to validate we're building the right things to make them more successful with our software. Ideally, you'll represent New Relic in open source communities and partner with analysts and marketing to establish us as a top solution in the tracing space.

Opportunity to work from a remote office may be available depending on applicant location.

What you’ll do:

  • Help develop product strategy for New Relic Distributed Tracing, informed by customer and market insights, competition, technical capability, and internal programs/assets.
  • In collaboration with Engineering, define a detailed product roadmap based on the company strategy
  • Own the full product lifecycle for key product development – from requirements definition to delivery to end of life
  • Establish business metrics and key customer/market research questions and work with research to collect key customer insights to decide on optimization or new product development. Maintain an active view of key competitors and their anticipated next moves. Deeply engage other parts of the team in this process.
  • Collaborate with Sales Management, Marketing, Finance, and other relevant teams to provide the market context and key drivers that feed the revenue forecast and longer-term outlook and TAM.
  • Serve as key ambassador for the business, delivering clear, compelling communications up and across New Relic and outside the company to position your product for success and garner any support required to successfully implement our roadmap.

Your qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of software technical product management, software engineering, or an equivalent educational and career background
  • Demonstrate strong experience in software development including planning and delivery
  • Experience designing and building APIs
  • Strong understanding of how modern technology systems communicate and are designed
  • Experience working on or leading enterprise/business-to-business products
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to seek consensus, lead via influence, patience, and determination
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills, including data analysis

Nice to have:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent education and experience
  • Background in SaaS and cloud-based software
  • Experience with Tracing technologies including OpenTelemetry, Zipkin, or Jaeger
  • Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
