Clarus Commerce specializes in building custom premium loyalty programs for our clients. We also have a direct to consumer business where we manage consumer facing subscription shopping products, such as ShopSmarter and FreeShipping.com.

Product Owner Overview:

Clarus Commerce is searching for a Product Owner who is motivated and collaborative with an entrepreneurial spirit. This position reports to the Director of Implementations. If you are someone who has worked in a Product Management or Technology Department, has an “Operational or Technical Mindset”, then this Product Owner role is for you. You will join a highly skilled agile team of software engineers, leading them from concept to delivery, setting the vision, solving some of the industry’s most exciting problems, and making hard decisions to meet key performance indicators. You will enjoy being the heart, mind, and voice of our stakeholders making tough calls with little information, deciding on product trade-offs, resolving conflicts so the development team works toward a consistent goal, and jumping in where necessary.

You may be the Product Owner we’re looking for if you excel at:

  • Product Ownership. You’ve been the heart, mind, and voice of the customer and you’re ready to take on a new challenge with a team who loves creating products that enrich consumers’ lives
  • Having an Agile mindset. You thrive on collaboration, adding business value, improvement, and adaptability
  • Loyalty or subscription products. You have experience with Acquisition, Payment Processing or Customer Care
  • Contributing. You collaborate on the product vision and roadmap, and product backlog
  • Communication. You can translate technical or marketing jargon into plain, concise English
  • Translation. You enjoy translating technical requirements from a customer into user stories
  • Articulation. You define user stories, personas, and acceptance criteria while paying careful attention to detail
  • Being flexible. You're comfortable with ambiguity in an ever-changing environment
  • People skills. You will work with business stakeholders, and many internal teams


Responsibilities of the Product Owner:

  • Own product backlog and communicate alignment to maximize the flow of value
  • Attend Agile ceremonies to introduce, clarify, and synchronize activities
  • Refine product specifications with software engineers and business stakeholders, answering specific questions about acceptance criteria
  • Host planning meetings and communicate the product vision to both business and technical stakeholders
  • Review delivery (demos) and validate that they meet the short and long-term vision for the product

Required Skills and Experience for the Product Owner:

  • 3-7 years?of quantitative, technical, or operational experience with mix of business, analytical, and IT knowledge
  • 3-7 years of story writing, business analyst, system analyst, or product ownership experience
  • You’re a self-starter and capable of multi-tasking
  • Critical and logical thinker while being hyper-focused on the details
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with focused ability to present complex operational/technical concepts to various types/levels of audiences
  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira, flow chart tools such as LucidCharts, and database or reporting tools such as SQL or Tableau
