Principal Java Engineer

The Software Engineering team delivers next-generation software application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop software for platforms, peripherals, applications and diagnostics — all with the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies and the collaboration of internal and external partners.

We are looking for a Principal Java Engineer with strong REST, MQ and Java JEE (backend) development experience on cloud-based solutions, including web services, database and continuous integration. What you’ll achieve:

As a Principal Java Engineer you will drive new storage orchestration solutions for our customers’ virtualized ecosystems using groundbreaking technologies. You will guide the team in the continued evolution of our REST and MQTT based IoT applications to bring new ideas and technologies to the table. As part of an agile development team, you will guide other team members to ensure development is completed to a high standard.

You will:

  • Develops REST and MQTT based services using the appropriate computer languages while adhering to team development standards and practices
  • Define project objectives, analyse user requirements, provide technical solution for business requirement(s), system features and functionality
  • Design new support features, test procedures including unit, system, and integration testing
  • Troubleshoot development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms
  • Design application test data, debug programs using appropriate system tools and ensure features developed are accurate and meet specifications
  • Acts as Agile development team member, responsible for collaborating with the team on release planning, sprint planning and scoping
  • Provides guidance to team members in all phases of project; coordinates requirements, schedules and activities, and contributes to team meetings

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of related experience with experience in database technologies like Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Java & JEE (JDBC, ORM, JPA, JMS) technologies and experience with Open Source tools like Apache Web/App servers, HiveMQ, MongoDB
  • Microservices frameworks, experience with Spring Boot required
  • Cloud technologies like Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), VMware, AWS, Azure
  • REST Web Services, including performing functional testing of REST-based web services
  • Experience working on DevOps using Docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of Secure protocols like TLS and Vulnerability Management tools (Checkmarx, Blackduck, Qualys, Kenna, Whitehat)

Desirable requirements:

  • Exposure to virtualization techniques, Linux and Unix platforms, unit testing tools, such as Junit and Easy Mock
  • Experience with AngularJS, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and UI Design
