The role:

As a Video Performance Engineer at Hopin, you will lead in assessing and improving the performance of Hopin’s video applications under high load. You will work closely with the Video Engineering team to ensure the platform is capable of handling concurrent connections in the hundreds of thousands, as well as being the “video expert” of the team, to pass on knowledge to other team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Load and Performance testing of all aspects of Hopin’s video platform, incl. testing of WebRTC and RTMP along with the surrounding applications
  • Proactively identifying performance issues and suggesting solutions to the video team
  • Upskilling other members of the team in video performance
  • Automation of integration tests for WebRTC and RTMP

About you:

  • 5 years experience with video streaming (WebRTC and RTMP)
  • Experience in improving video performance, understanding how to scale video applications
  • Experience with cloud providers (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with automated test frameworks
  • Experience with telemetry/diagnostic systems such as Honeycomb.io, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc
  • Demonstrable experience learning new technologies on your own
  • Excellent teamwork and mentoring skills
  • Good knowledge of version control
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Redis, Postgres and Ruby on Rails
